A creative writing and nature walk exploring Graves Park’s history and mystery starts at Dukes Of Rose Garden Cafe in Sheffield on 19th September 2026 at 10:00. The walk costs between £9 and £12 and includes writing opportunities.
A creative walk with lots of opportunity to write. We will be exploring this huge park, parts of which go back to the Domesday Book.
On this walk around Sheffield's largest park, we'll meet at the Rose Garden Cafe at 10am and settle into the landscape, where formal flowerbeds meet highland cattle and ancient woodland and Victorian boating lakes.
We'll stop plenty of times along the way on benches, walls and old tree trunks. Then plan is put our final route into the hands of fate, tossing a coin at crossroads in the path to see where we will end up, before heading back to the Rose Garden cafe to write about our adventures.
This walk will be dog-friendly and is accessible by the Number 20 Hemsworth bus from Sheffield City Centre. There's also a pay and display car park near to the cafe, or nearby on-street parking.
2026 is the official centenery of Graves Park, as it consists of different parcels of land bought up by benefactor J G Graves. There's more about the extensive and fascinating history of the park here: Friends of Graves Park – Registered Charity Number: 1080407
The walk is facilitated by Anne Grange, who first came to Sheffield in 1995. A keen nature-lover who enjoys exploring hidden corners of Sheffield, Anne is a novelist, poet and editor and her latest novel, Field Values, is out now!
