We are delighted to announce that throughout 2026 we will be holding a series of FREE small Community Events across the country. These half-day events will be a chance for stroke survivors to come and meet Different Strokes staff and volunteers, to hear from other stroke survivors, to take part in activities, and most importantly to engage with other survivors and to share stories.
The next event will be in Sheffield on Friday 25th September.
Join Different Strokes for a welcoming Community Event in Sheffield, bringing together younger stroke survivors, family members and carers for a morning of support, connection and shared experiences.
Our Community Events provide an opportunity to meet others who understand life after stroke, hear inspiring stories and build new connections within the stroke community.
Whether your stroke happened recently or many years ago, we'd love to welcome you.
What to Expect
The morning will include:
A guest speaker presentation from stroke survivor Jak Carr
Time to connect with other stroke survivors and families
Tea, coffee and refreshments
An optional activity
A light lunch
Event Programme
10:00am – Registration and tea/coffee
10:30am – Welcome from Caroline Saunders, Different Strokes
10:45am – Talk from Jak Carr, Stroke Survivor, followed by Q&A
11:30am – Tea/coffee and sharing stories with each other
12:00pm – Optional activity or further discussions with fellow attendees
12:45pm – Closing comments
1:00pm – Light lunch
Guest Speaker: Jak Carr
Jak had a stroke aged 47 in 2021.
Hear him speak about how stroke affected his identity, the unique approach he has taken to recovery and how his experiences have shaped the way he now views the future.
His story offers insight, encouragement and hope for others navigating life after stroke.
Optional Activity
There will be an optional activity for attendees during the afternoon session.
Further details will be confirmed soon and shared with attendees ahead of the event.
Those who would prefer not to take part will be welcome to continue conversations and connect with other attendees.
