Finding metals using gamma-ray burst galaxies

Astronomers call everything heavier than hydrogen and helium metals. Various processes in the universe create these metals, and in turn, metals influence almost every process in the universe. In this talk, we will explore how and where elements are made, how they spread across the universe, and why gamma-ray burst galaxies specifically are useful to measure how much metals there are.

Anne Inkenhaag has been fascinated with stars and the universe since she was a kid. After high school she did a Bachelor's in Physics and Astronomy at the Radboud University in Nijmegen, doing as many modules as possible on anything astrophysics related. Anne continued at the same university to pursue a Master's in Particle and Astrophysics. She then did her PhD at the Radboud University as well, working on the environments and host galaxies of different types of transients and is now a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Bath, researching gamma-ray burst host galaxies.
