Sculpture Making: A weird & wonderful racecourse

Join Sheffield-based artist Charlotte Miles (https://www.cefmiles.com) for Hoofing it!, a free absurdist sculpture making workshop at ArtBomb (60 Hall Gate, DN1 3PB) on Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th September 2026.

Drawing from the creative expression of aburdism, the imagery of the worlds' oldest classic horse race, St Legers Stakes, and games such as Roll-a-Derby and Mario Kart, Charlotte will show you how to create a weird and wonderful 3D horse sculpture from recycled cardboard, paint & glue.

Over the course of the St Leger 250 Year Anniversary weekend, the ArtBomb space will be transformed into an absurd race course filled with illogical creatures and their jockeys that grows over two days of workshops.

The shop-cum-racecourse will remain open as a public exhibition until late October 2026. The work will be accompanied by a moving sculpture created by the artist & commissioned by ArtBomb artist.

Hoofing It! has been developed as a creative response to the St Legers 250 Year Anniversary celebrations, and is supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Danum Gallery, Library and Museum.

This is a free, hands-on workshop. All materials will be provided.

Minimum age: 6+ with parental supervision.
