The secret isn't just taking it off.
It's making them wait for it.
Something provocative is coming to The Velvet Burlesque™ this December.
STRIPTEASE BASICS - Learn the Art of Burlesque Striptease is a fun, supportive 2.5-hour introduction to the art, technique, and performance of burlesque striptease, taught by multi-award-winning choreographer, teacher, performer, mentor, and producer Lara Gothique.
Striptease is about far more than simply removing clothing.
It is about tease, timing, anticipation, musicality, eye contact, body language, confidence, control, and knowing how to make even the smallest movement count.
A glove can take an entire musical phrase to remove.
A jacket can become a prop.
A zip can become a moment of anticipation.
And sometimes, the pause before the reveal is far more powerful than the reveal itself.
During this workshop, Lara will introduce you to practical burlesque striptease techniques before bringing them together in a simple step-by-step routine, with plenty of opportunity to experiment, practise, and bring your own personality and performance style to the choreography.

WHAT WE WILL EXPLORE
During the afternoon, you will explore:
Building tease and anticipation before removing an item
Working with clothing rather than simply taking it off
Smooth, deliberate clothing removals
Timing removals to music
Eye contact and facial performance
Body language, posture, and presentation
Pauses, stillness, and changes of pace
Conceal and reveal
Transitions between clothing items
Making simple actions feel polished and intentional
Confidence and stage presence
Handling those inevitable moments when clothing refuses to behave
Bringing your own personality, character, and performance style into the movement
The emphasis is on how you perform the removal - not how much clothing you remove.
BEGINNERS WELCOME
No previous striptease, burlesque, or dance experience is required.
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners, regular dance-class attendees, and more experienced dancers or performers who would like to refine their striptease technique and stagecraft.
The routine will be taught carefully and step by step, with plenty of repetition and space to work at your own level.
OPTIONAL CLOTHING REMOVAL
You are always in control of what you choose to remove.
You can learn and enjoy the complete routine without removing any clothing at all.
If you would like to explore clothing removal, you might choose to remove one item, several outer layers, or work towards a fuller traditional burlesque striptease sequence.
Those wishing to perform a fuller striptease may remove upper-body clothing down to nipple tassels or pasties. Lower-body clothing may also be removed, provided that a minimum of knickers or pants remains in place.
Full nudity is not permitted within the workshop.
WHAT TO WEAR & BRING
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Sportswear, leggings, stretchy tops, tights, bodysuits, shorts, or similar dancewear are all suitable.
Layering is recommended.
You are also encouraged to bring a selection of items that can be incorporated into the striptease technique, such as:
Satin gloves
A robe, wrap, jacket, pashmina, or shawl
A scarf, tie, or tulle boa - no feathers, please
A sarong, skirt, or loose trousers
A shirt or blouse
A bra or harness worn over your workshop clothing
Nipple tassels or pasties if you wish to explore a complete burlesque striptease sequence
Do not worry about buying anything special. Bring what you already have, and Lara can help you choose suitable pieces during the session.
FOOTWEAR
Heels are optional.
You are welcome to wear dance shoes, comfortable heeled shoes or boots, flat shoes, socks, or work barefoot.
For safety reasons, slingbacks, platforms, and pole dance-style shoes are not permitted.
