Join the University of Sheffield Confucius Institute on Friday 2 October at Firth Hall for an evening of live music, dance and tradition.

This year’s celebration features a range of live performances that connect traditional art forms with contemporary music. From Chinese classical and folk dance to vocal recitals and instrumental duets, the showcase brings together local and guest artists to share stories of reunion, poetry, and heritage under the harvest moon.

Performance Highlights

Wanlin Academy of Dance & Performing Arts

Blossoms in Dew (中国古典舞《花想容·露华浓》): A classical dance drawing on Tang dynasty poet Li Bai’s imagery of blossoms and drifting clouds.

Muqam Musings (中国民族民间舞《木卡姆随想》): A folk dance celebrating the Xinjiang Uyghur Muqam tradition, combining song, music, and rhythmic movement.

Little Immortals (中国古典舞《小神仙》): A youth performance inspired by Taoist folklore, blending traditional dance with playful expressions.

Cai Wei (中国古典舞《采薇》): Based on The Book of Songs (Shijing), this piece uses fluid choreography to express themes of home and return.

Featured Vocal & Instrumental Music

Mule Zha (Soprano): Classically trained soprano, Sheffield resident, and University of Nottingham PhD candidate in Music Performance, Mule Zha will perform Song of the Chile.

Chia-Hsin Lin (Violin): Performing solo arrangements of well-known pieces, including Moonlight Over the City and Blue and White Porcelain.

Zhenghao Li (Clarinet): A graduate of Guangxi Arts University and currently studying Music at the University of Sheffield, Zhenghao brings extensive classical training and passion to the stage.

Duo Performance: Chia-Hsin Lin (Violin) and Zhenghao Li (Clarinet) team up for a joint arrangement of Moon River.
