Wild Mushroom Walk at Grindleford (with Embodied Foraging)

Join us for a slow-paced, sensory exploration through the ancient woodlands of Grindleford and Padley Gorge — a stunning landscape rich in autumn colour, woodland biodiversity, and a wide variety of fungi.

This event is about seasonal awareness, deepening your knowledge of mushrooms, and learning how to engage with the wild in a mindful and respectful way. You’ll be guided through the basics of mushroom recognition, including features to look for, habitat clues, and relationships between fungi and trees. Expect an introduction to Boletes, Russulas, Amanitas, medicinal species, and more, depending on what nature offers us on the day.

We’ll also touch on Embodied Foraging, a gentle, sensory-based practice that helps deepen your connection to the woodland through movement, smell, touch, and stillness. This is not just about what you find, but how you experience being out in the woods.

Padley Gorge is a place of outstanding natural beauty, and we’ll be moving at a pace that lets us pause, explore, and engage fully with our surroundings.

Practical Info:

The walk covers around one to two miles, but we take our time and may venture off the main paths. Please be aware: the terrain includes inclines, tree roots, and can be muddy or slippery after rain. Sturdy boots or wellies and waterproofs are essential.

We'll stop somewhere scenic for lunch, bring a packed lunch and drink.

Please note: Fires and cooking are not permitted at this location.
