About This Event

The Winter Tunnel Book Workshop – Create a Layered Paper Scene is scheduled for 22 November 2026 at Spirals in Sharrow. Participants will engage in a hands-on experience to create a miniature winter world through paper cutting, layering, and three-dimensional bookmaking. The workshop costs £48.00.

Create your own miniature winter world in this hands-on workshop exploring paper cutting, layering and three-dimensional bookmaking.

Join us in the Upstairs Gallery at Spirals for a relaxed and creative workshop introducing the possibilities of simple paper construction.

A tunnel book is a three-dimensional artwork made from a series of cut-paper layers, arranged one behind another to create a scene with depth and perspective. Viewed from the front, the layers combine to produce a miniature world.

In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to design, cut and assemble your own tunnel book, experimenting with shapes, silhouettes, colour and composition.

Taking inspiration from winter landscapes, woodland scenes, architecture or your own imagination, you'll build up layers to create a unique paper artwork.

Whether you choose a simple, graphic design or something more intricate, you'll leave with a beautiful handmade piece to display at home or give as a gift.

What to expect:

An introduction to tunnel books and layered paper art

Exploring simple paper cutting and folding techniques

Experimenting with depth, perspective and composition

Designing and constructing your own winter-inspired scene

Creating a finished three-dimensional paper artwork to take home

No previous experience is necessary. This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and anyone who enjoys getting crafty with paper.

All materials and equipment are provided, along with tea, coffee and biscuits.

For adults aged 18 and over.

Meet your tutor

This workshop is led by Sheffield-based artist and experienced tutor Kim Bevan, who runs Paperbased (@paperbasedworkshops).

Kim works predominantly with paper, exploring its creative possibilities through artist’s books, sculptural forms, printmaking, papercutting and illustration. Her artist’s books often incorporate inventive folding techniques, transforming flat sheets into intricate three-dimensional structures.

Inspired by everyday life, human nature and conversations, Kim creates playful and detailed work that invites closer inspection.

Alongside her own artistic practice, she runs creative workshops for all ages, both from her studio in Sheffield and venues across the surrounding area.
