About This Event

A science workshop titled 'From Liquid to Ice Cream: The Cool Science of Freezing!' will take place at the National Surf Centre in Strandhill on 14 November 2026. The session is designed for children aged 6 to 12 years. Admission is free.

Science Workshop for Kids with Anyone 4 Science

(Age Group 6-12 yrs)

What happens when a liquid gets really, really cold? It freezes! But what if we told you that freezing can be much more exciting than simply putting something in a freezer?

At our Anyone 4 Science STEM Workshop, young scientists will discover the fascinating science behind freezing and even use their STEM skills to make their very own freezer and ice cream!

In this a delicious science experiment children will investigate how a mixture can be cooled until it freezes, while mixing and moving it to help create the smooth texture we recognise as ice cream

They'll discover that adding salt to ice can make the ice mixture colder than ordinary melting ice, allowing us to freeze the ice cream mixture more effectively.

Suddenly, a bowl of ice, salt, milk or cream and flavourings becomes a miniature STEM laboratory!
