View all →About This Event
Join us for a spooky evening featuring ghost stories, myths, legends and supernatural tales associated with the amazing Northwood House, the Isle of Wight’s most haunted building. This evening is a far more than just a retelling of old ghost stories – it’s a chance to unravel the history of the house and to understand why this huge Georgian manor is so haunted. It’s fascinating history includes wild parties, royal scandal and an Egyptian funeral temple. For many years and two World Wars it was a Red Cross hospital, complete with its own operating theatre and secret tunnels. It has also been a convent, a WW2 command centre and even a morgue for Spanish flu victims hidden in its huge 300-year-old cellars. It is no wonder Northwood House has more than its fair share of spiritual residents. Tim Wander was the major projects manager at Northwood House for six years and is now a Board member and Trustee of the Charity restoring this amazing mansion to past glories. In that time, he has hosted numerous paranormal and ghost hunting groups for the Charity and taken part in two detailed University led studies. Tim is also an engineer, author, writer and lecturer with a science background. He still remains open minded about everything considered “super-natural” and his talk will reveal some of the ghostly sightings and unexplained occurrences that continue to occur. “There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy” So does he believe in ghosts? Well first you have to understand what a ghost is, or could be, or even was …. So if you are fascinated by ghosts, this is an evening not to miss. Did you know that Albert Einstein called Ghosts ‘congealed light’ ? and that he proved that “ Energy cannot be created or destroyed ; it can only be changed from one form to another.” Tim Wander, author of the popular book “The Ghosts of Northwood House” will be your host. Those of a nervous disposition should perhaps only attend the event if accompanied by another person! THE GHOSTS OF THE PAST WILL TALK TO ALL WHO LISTEN Come with an open mind. Expect nothing, but be prepared for everything. Tim will tell you how the paranormal pervades every corner of the house, what the years of professional ghost hunters have seen and how science might offer… just some of the answers. Limited tickets. One night only Ticket price: £22.50/person Tickets include a medium sized glass of house wine or a 33cl bottle of premium beer or a hot drink and biscuits upon arrival. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Sorry, this event is for adults and over 16s, must be accompanied by their parent(s) or guardian(s). Wine and beer option available for over 18’s only. This exclusive tour of the house is by candlelight and through darkened rooms, so guests will need to take extra care while moving through the building. Those of a nervous disposition should only attend the event if accompanied by another person. Narrow stairs will be used to access the cellars and first floor of the building, so some parts of the experience will not be suitable/accessible for those with walking difficulties or needing a wheelchair for which we apologise in advance. Free parking is available in the rotunda car park, with entrance through the main rotunda doors. Signed copies of Tim Wanders book “Ghosts of Northwood House” will be available to purchase on the night. Event lasts approx 2- 2.5 hours.
