A workshop supporting children affected by domestic abuse will take place at the Civic Centre in Southampton on 10 November. This session delivered by Yellow Door is free to attend for frontline practitioners.
This training session is delivered by Yellow Door and is aimed at frontline practitioners working with families, children and young people.
This in-person course is designed to build understanding of the impact of domestic abuse on children and young people, and to strengthen participants’ ability to communicate and provide appropriate support to both the child and their parents or caregivers. It will explore how to support children, young people and families impacted by domestic abuse and is available to all partner agencies in Southampton.
Learning outcomes
This course will develop your awareness of:
How domestic abuse affects children differently across developmental stages.
How domestic abuse disrupts parenting, family roles, attachment and communication.
Developmentally appropriate communication strategies for engaging with children affected by domestic abuse.
How children and young people are used as part of the pattern of abuse.
Trauma-informed, empathetic approaches when engaging with survivor parents.
Appropriate interventions with the parent choosing to use abusive behaviour.
