About This Event

The talk 'Tír na nÓg: Archaeology of the Supernatural Otherworld' will take place on 10 November 2026 at Highfield Campus in Southampton. Archaeologist Jack Rogers will explore the concept of the supernatural across different cultures. Attendance is free.

What is the supernatural? Join archaeologist Jack Rogers to find out what ghosts and ghouls mean in different cultures.

Explore what the supernatural is, through an interactive talk and engaging Q&A with a researcher!

Jack Rogers is a post graduate researcher at the University of Southampton whose study focuses on archaeology, mythology and how these topics are used by pseudoscience and conspiracy. With an avid interest in myth and legend.

Perception is a key factor in the study of other cultures, what the supernatural means to you might mean something completely different to someone else. You can enjoy the ranting of a mad archaeologist looking to expand people's understanding of how the way we all see the world can be different.

Learn why studying other cultures' rituals and beliefs can be so difficult and why it is important to try and leave behind our own biases when attempting to piece together past civilisations.

By the end, you will hopefully have a better understanding of how ghosts, ghouls and supernatural stories can mean very different things to various people and cultures.

Disclaimer - no ghosts will be attending.
