This optional event will support your transition into university and help to give you the best possible start at Southampton.

The Transition Day has been designed specifically to support new undergraduate students, from underrepresented backgrounds, with starting university life.

You’ll find out more about studying at the University of Southampton and the support which is available to you when you join us! You'll also have the opportunity to meet other students from similar backgrounds and familiarise yourself with University before your first day!

During the Day you will have the opportunity to:

speak with current students about their experiences and ask any questions you may have

understand the wide range of student support, events and opporunties available at the university and student's union

develop the academic and study skills needed to succeed

make connections with other new students

take part in a guided tour of Highfield Campus

understand your finances as a student and learn about the financial support available

get advice on a wide range of topics from staff in key University services

There will also be an optional 1 hour drop-in session at the end of the day, should you wish to speak with certain support services 1:1.

Eligibility

Please note that spaces are open to eligible undergraduate students only. To be eligible you must be starting a course at the University in September 2026 and meet 1 or more of the following criteria:

a mature student who'll be aged 21 and over when starting your course this academic year

eligible for the University's Ignite your Success programme (i.e. from a deprived area of the UK, also known as IMDQ1area, or someone who received free school meals in secondary education)

be leaving local authority care or care experienced

be an estranged student

a carer who cares, unpaid, for a family member or friend with an illness or disability

a Black or Mixed Black Heritage student
