Come and join Ride Sheppey Community Cycling Club for a very leisurely and social bike ride led by our trained Group Leaders! Rides start at 10:00 AM, and we welcome cyclists of all skill levels.

Equipment Borrowing:

Bikes and helmets are available to borrow. Please message us to reserve one as numbers are limited.

Routes:

Mainly off-road and designed to be accessible for everyone.

Children:

Children aged 12+ can attend if accompanied by a parent (1 adult per 1-2 children).

Participants under 16 must be supervised by an adult.

Attendance:

Pre-booking is required.

To attend, you must inform a Group Leader or a member of the management team beforehand. You can also send an email to sheppeyccc@gmail.com or book via Eventbrite. If you're in our WhatsApp group, you can let us know there. Please arrive 15 minutes early for preparation.

What Happens on a Led Ride?

Briefing & Bike Check:

The Group Leader will go over the route and expectations. Riders will complete a short practice ride in the car park area to check signals and ensure bikes are in working order.

During the Ride:

The Group Leader rides at the front.

The Assistant Group Leader stays at the back, ensuring no one is left behind and guiding the group safely through busy areas.

Expect a café stop or a rest break—bring means of payment or your own refreshments.

Duration:

The ride typically lasts 2 hours, but actual cycling time is around 45-50 minutes with plenty of breaks.

Leadership & Training:

Our Group Leaders and Assistants are fully trained and qualified through Cycling UK.

Inclusive Equipment Policy:

E-bikes, trikes, and adapted cycles are welcome. Please check route suitability in advance if you use an adapted cycle.

Essential Kit:

Bike and helmet (bring your own or borrow from us)

Water bottle, mobile phone, and coat

Lightweight, comfortable clothing (e.g., leggings, tracksuit, or shorts). A lightweight jacket is recommended, especially on coastal paths.

Club Membership & Costs:

Free membership!

First-time participants complete a simple form with emergency contact details.

Club Rules:

Helmets must be worn unless a disability prevents it (proof required, and management must approve exemptions).

Hi-vis clothing is required for on-road riding.

Be respectful and polite.

Handle club equipment and bikes with care.

Respect others' personal boundaries and choices.

Unscheduled stops must be agreed upon by the Group Leader and participants unless for health/safety reasons.

Disputes will be resolved through the club’s agreement process.

Children under 16 must be supervised by an adult (minimum participant age: 6).

No alcohol or drugs are allowed during rides. Participants must comply with UK cycling laws.

A minimum of three Group Leaders is required for a ride unless management authorizes otherwise.

All participants must have a bicycle (personal or borrowed from the club).

Changes to rules require management team approval.

An M-check is mandatory for new members' bikes before the ride.

Group Leaders may adjust the route for health and safety reasons.

Additional Notes:

Risk assessments are conducted for all rides.

A first aider is present on every ride.
