Construction of this Norman church began around 1140 AD and finished in 1180 AD, although it has been added to and altered over the years. The Spire, added in 1340, is one of the tallest in Europe, measuring a total height of 200 feet. It is topped by a gilded weather vane.
St Mary’s contains numerous architectural features and notable memorials to local historical figures. You are welcome to stay in the Church after the tour.
