About This Event

Scheduled for 14 October 2026 at Chester Lane Library in St Helens, Performers Together stands as a curated gathering for individuals with a passion for performance. The programme offers a dedicated space for those who identify as performers or hold a deep interest in the act of performing. Various artists will utilise the venue to present their work within this community-focused theatrical environment.

A space for anyone who calls themselves a performer or is interested in performing.

Performers Together is a workshop group delivered over 12 sessions, meeting on Wednesday evenings from now until next March.

It’s a space for anyone who calls themselves a performer or is interested in performing.

Let’s be clear: it’s not about music, although I am sure some of us will do some singing sometime.

It is about a safe place where actor/performers (the names for what we are can be a bit woolly can’t they) can meet and learn.

We will do physical work, text work, devising, improvisation, warm-ups, play games, create. We will talk about projects and give each other our support and thoughts to help them happen.

It’s also a space where if you are a ‘performer’ you can come and ‘keep your hand in’.

We will build up a small group of open-minded people who can come and play/learn/train/create together. Oh, and laugh too.

Maybe next March we will have a weekend where we rehearse something and do a scratch performance. Of what, we have no idea…yet.

The sessions will be led by Kevin Dyer. Kevin is a director who has worked at The Dukes Lancaster, Birmingham Rep, Eastern Angles, Rose Bruford, UCLan, Nottingham Playhouse, Theatre Porto, Travelling Light, The Bristol Old Vic, Theatr Nanaroosk in Iran, Theatre Vulavulani in Soweto, and he has worked with dozens of small scale companies and independent performers. Currently he is the Writing Lead for the Arts in Libraries team in St Helens, Creative Lead for Storm in the North, and Associate Writer for Theatre Porto.

We will also have four professional guest specialists inputting into/leading the sessions between now and March.

If you have any questions, drop him a line at kevindyer@sthelens.gov.uk

First session is about physical theatre – and you do not need to have done any in the past ever. You do not need to be a gymnast or a dancer or hyper fit. Physical theatre can take place in a chair.

Second session is about making micro-performances (creating text and making a tiny, rehearsed show in one evenings).

Additional topics will be covered and agreed upon during the sessions.

Description supplied by the event organiser.
