Cornwall Hospice Care is pleased to announce an upcoming Advanced Communication Skills workshop, scheduled to take place at St Julia's Hospice in St Ives. This intensive two-day course will run on Monday 7 December and Tuesday 8 December 2026, commencing at 9:15 am and concluding at 4:30 pm each day. The primary objective of this workshop is to provide delegates with an opportunity to significantly enhance their existing communication proficiencies. Participants will engage with and explore a range of effective communication models, designed to foster deeper understanding and more nuanced interactions. This is an invaluable opportunity for professionals seeking to refine their ability to connect with others, particularly in sensitive or challenging environments. The fee for the entire two-day programme is £200.
This is a 2 day evidenced based Advanced Communication Skills course. The Advanced Communication Skills course is set over 2 days where the successful applicant will devote to the whole course to enhance not only their own existing skillset but contribute to those of all the group participants. Each day will run from 9.15am until 4.30pm. Models of communication will be addressed, and the focus will be on the ‘SPIKES PLUS’ model currently in use across most of the country. Experience within the field of advanced communication is essential at a senior level and as a base line requirement onto this course. The course is open to all healthcare professionals who are constantly having to deal with those difficult communication scenarios that require the skills to both support and to challenge at times, those that they face regularly. It is an experiential course which includes role-play for which all participants will take part in live, as realistically as possible, the shared experience. Building upon existing skills, participants will take away not only fresh and innovative ideas gained from the design of this Advanced Communication Skills course, but also will benefit from the safety and experience from the trained facilitators throughout. Networking will give an opportunity for the course participants to support each other, not only during the education and training, but also post-course, along with that of the ongoing support as needed, by the facilitators. A certificate will be awarded upon completion of the session. Learning outcomes for the Advanced Communication Skills training Aimed at a senior level of healthcare professional, this Advanced Communication Skills Course will offer the individual Practitioner: Understanding of the importance of effective communication Understanding how to reduce the barriers to effective communication Identifying your own communication skills strengths and weaknesses Understanding the emotional impact on people and their families who are living with disease a potentially a life-limiting illness, or one of life’s challenges and how that influences communication Exploring strategies to support effective communication skills And from the End-of-Life Education Strategy: 1.1b: Developing and maintaining communication with people about difficult and complex matters or situations related to end- of- life care 1.1g: Examine knowledge/research of the importance of breaking bad news and to develop strategies for the skills delivery of bad news This Advance Communication Skills course cost includes tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the days.
