An in person training session followed by a tour of the Dementia Design & Technology, an ideal introduction to ageing, dementia & design.
Join us at our home in the Iris Murdoch Building for a training session that introduces ageing, dementia and design. As we know, the population globally is ageing and we need to be better prepared and equipped as we make this transition.
This unique course provides an overview of the impairments of ageing, dementia and design. Specifically, the course will touch on what a dementia is and how a diagnosis can impact individuals (plus those who support them), and also how design can foster independence and reduce stress. The training session is followed by a guided tour of the internationally renowned Dementia Design & Technology Suite within the Iris Murdoch Building.
When the Iris Murdoch Building opened, in 2002, it was the first dementia friendly public building in the UK, designed using the evidence-based dementia design principles. The Design & Technology Suite comprises of three rooms: a bedroom with en-suite; a living / dining room with kitchen; and a hospital room with en-suite. The rooms showcase some of the dementia design principles in practice and a variety of assistive technologies which can be applied both in homes and care facilities.
DSDC is an internationally recognised centre with the mission to improve lives for people living with a dementia.
