What happens when you merge two fabulous singer-songwriters with the City of Stoke-on-Trent Symphony Orchestra?

For one special night, Julia Mosley and Hannah Sophie bring their songs to St Giles’ Church, Newcastle-under-Lyme, where they will be transformed through brand new orchestral arrangements performed live by the City of Stoke-on-Trent Symphony Orchestra (CSSO).

This is Hive Classics: a collaboration between artists and musicians from different parts of the music world, taking familiar songs somewhere completely new.

Julia Mosley’s distinctive, atmospheric songwriting and powerful vocals meet the intimate, emotionally driven songs of Hannah Sophie, with both artists performing alongside the orchestra in arrangements created especially for this event.

Expect familiar songs, but not quite as you know them.

The evening will showcase the original artists alongside the scale, texture and drama of a live orchestra, creating something that sits somewhere between a gig, a concert and a musical experiment.

And there is no better setting for it than St Giles’ Church, with its atmosphere and acoustics adding another dimension to the performance.

A Stoke-on-Trent based singer-songwriter whose piano-led songs explore themes including love, heartbreak and mental health, combining vulnerable songwriting with powerful vocals and soft, cinematic melodies.

Stoke-on-Trent's resident professional symphony orchestra, bringing together professional musicians for concerts, community events and innovative musical experiences across the region.

After the interval, grab yourselves a drink from the bar and join us as we go behind the music with a short film exploring how Hive Classics came together. We’ll then open up the conversation, with our host joined by the singer-songwriters and members of the orchestra for a relaxed, guided Q&A. Hear what happened when these very different musical worlds collided, find out how the original songs were transformed for orchestra, ask your own questions and get involved in the conversation. It’s a chance to discover the stories behind the music and be part of the Hive Classics experience, not simply watch it from the audience.
