About This Event

The annual John West-Burnham Memorial Lecture will be held on 19 November 2026 at 16:00 at City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College. It is free to attend and celebrates the legacy of John West-Burnham.

Join us for this annual event that celebrates and builds on the legacy of John-West Burnham whose work powerfully positioned education.

Hosted by Three Spires Trust, in partnership with the newly-formed John West-Burnham Legacy Trust, a keynote lecture and range of simulating 'fringe' activities, discussions and school visits will bring together leaders, educators and partners keen to explore innovation and future thinking in education. It aims to inspire new thinking and meaningful collaboration across the education community.

This year's lecture is being given by Sean Harris, an internationally recognised leader committed to tackling social disadvantage and driving meaningful change in education. With extensive experience across the charity and public/education sectors, he has worked to address educational inequality, advance teacher education, and support system leaders in embedding research into practice. Sean is Director of People, Learning and Community Engagement (PLACE) at Tees Valley Education. PLACE is an award-winning initiative designed to better understand and tackle multiple inequalities in the Tees Valley through collaboration and community engagement. He is also co-author of Tackling Poverty and Disadvantage in Schools

Aligned with the vision of Schools of Tomorrow and Whole Education the lecture will consider how schools can respond to emerging challenges, embrace innovation and prepare young people for an ever-changing world.

Alongside the main lecture, we will also be hosting a programme of fringe events and networking opportuntiies on Thursday afternoon from 3pm and school visits on the morning of Friday 20th, with further details to follow.
