A national celebration of young people and fishing for cadets and youth occurs on 12 September 2026. The event is located at the Shropshire Union Canal in Newport. Entry costs £13.52 and includes prizes and awards supported by Tackle Guru.
Supported by Tackle Guru, there will be prizes, medals, trophies, and awards aplenty in this significant national event.
Supported by Tackle Guru , there will be a Tackle Guru goodie bag and event medal, a £5 Angling Direct voucher, a collectable event certificate and tackle prizes for every participant taking part. Anyone who weighs in one or more gudgeon will win a coveted 2026 edition Tackle Guru branded gudgeon mug.
Day 1 of the national celebration welcomes cadets aged 6 to 10 years inclusive and Youth participants aged 16 to 20 years inclusive on the 1st day of January 2026 the match. You will require an up to date Environment Agency Rod Licence if participating in the youth section.

Booking information
Please book one ticket per participant in the correct category, Cadets age 6 to 10 years on 1st January 2026 and Youth age16 to 20 years on the 1st January 2026, ensuring that the ticket is booked in the name of the actual participant who intends to fish, not in the parent or guardians name. Multiple bookings using the same participant name will not be accepted.
The allocation of fishing positions will take place on Let’s Fish Live facebook page on Wednesday September 9th from 5pm.
Directions to the canal.
You will be sent directions to the location of the nearest car park for your peg within 24hrs of the draw.
Match times
Cadets, 12.00 am until 3pm
Youth 11.30am until 4.00pm
Youth should aim to be on the bank for 9.45 to 10am and Cadets 10.00am -10.45am

Prize Presentation
As in previous years this will be held at Harper Adams University, Newport. TF10 8NB.
Such is our success; we have outgrown the hall that we have previously used and are now using a larger hall called 'The Barn'. This is to the left of the previous location and has no stairs to negotiate. Parking is in the usual place but there is additional parking behind the new venue. Please look at the campus map, the new venue is marked No. 39. Harper Adams Campus Plan
Cost of Event
The cost for each participant is £12.00 plus booking fee
However, if you have booked on and are subsequently unable to attend before the draw then please cancel your ticket.
You must cancel using one of these three mechanisms:
• 1 The preferred method is via the Eventbrite ticket booking system using the link that you can find on your ticket. This can be found at the bottom of your ticket and has a link directly to “cancel my ticket”.
• 2 By email lets.fish@canalrivertrust.org.uk giving details of date, venue and participants in your email message.
• 3 If you are unable to attend after the draw you must cancel by emailing; lets.fish@canalrivertrust.org.uk
We ask for your co-operation in this matter. This will allow others who would otherwise have regrettably missed out due to lack of available fishing pegs, it will give the opportunity to those on the reserve list to attend this event.

This event is also ideal preparation for the to represent your nations community at the Global Communities Celebration event on Saturday 17th October 2026.
