12pm - Iron Ladies (1hr 39mins) & 2.30pm - Battle For Orgreave (1hr)
Sunday Session
Potteries Film Festival 2026 celebrates working class history, culture and the Potteries via cinema. On our Sunday session will be showing the following films:
12pm - Iron Ladies (1hr 39mins) Released in 2025 this is the story of working-class women who, during the 1984–85 Miners' Strike, found themselves at the forefront of a battle against the British state. From Scotland down to Kent, women from the coalfields shed light on their experiences of the year long struggle, and how they became the backbone of the Strike. With many still active today, their actions reshaped the landscape of political activism for working-class women.
2.30pm - The Battle for Orgreave (52mins) Yvette Vanson's documentary puts the record straight, as miners recount their own history, their economic and political struggles over decades and the trial they endured for 48 days in Sheffield when charged with riot at Orgreave - facing life imprisonment.
Containing compelling testimonies, emotive cinematography, in depth analysis coupled with meticulous detail of the mass picket and the ensuing events of June 18 1984 at the Orgreave coking plant, the documentary also has unique footage of police violence – all these make this an historic and important document of our time.
3.30pm - Q+A with Kate Flannery from The Orgreave Truth & Justice Campaign and Dan Draper the director of Iron Ladies. Plus more TBA.
At 1.45pm there will be a book launch by PHANS at the same venue, attendees are welcome to stay for this. Author Edd Mustill will be talking about his book Britain's Revolutionary Summer: The General Strike of 1926
