XM655 will be carrying out an Engine Ground Run and QRA Demonstration at Wellesbourne Airfield on Sunday 27th September.

XM655 Maintenance and Preservation Society are holding an Engine Ground Run and QRA Demonstration at Wellesbourne Airfield on Sunday 27th September commencing at 10.00am.

Viewing will be from XM655's usual parking location at the north-west corner of the airfield. This will give a clear view of all the activity around the aircraft.

In the morning, during start-up of the aircraft for the Engine Ground Run, the cockpit intercom will be relayed to the crowd allowing a detailed appreciation of what is required to bring a complex four-engined bomber to life. After engine start, a short slow taxi run will bring the aircraft even closer to the viewing area.

Following a break for lunch, we will prepare the aircraft for a Quick Reaction Alert and will then carry out a Mass Rapid Start which brings on the four engines, their electrical systems and all the flying controls simultaneously.

Various items of ground equipment will be on show, and there will also be the opportunity during the lunch break to "meet the aircrew" and chat to the volunteers about how we continue to keep XM655 alive.

Teas, coffees and refreshments will be on sale throughout the event, and the XM655 merchandise store and other outlets will be open for anyone wishing to take home a souvenir of the event.

Gates will open at 10.00 am and the crew-in for the Engine Ground Run will be at around 11.00 am. Crew-in for the Mass Rapid Start will be at around 1.30 pm. After the engine run, access will be available to walk under the aircraft once we have confirmed that everything has cooled down. The event will end at 4:00 pm, and attendees are requested to vacate the site promptly at the end of the event.

Attendance is limited, admission is by advance ticket only and tickets are now on sale priced at £25 for adults. Members of XM655 Maintenance and Preservation Society may contact the Membership Secretary to obtain a 50% discount code prior to buying their tickets.

Under-14s will be admitted free provided they are accompanied by a ticketed adult.

All activities are subject to the serviceability of the aircraft and essential equipment. Should it be necessary to cancel the event for any reason, we will provide full refunds on all ticket purchases. We won’t, however, be able to compensate for other costs you or your guests might incur attending the event, such as travelling or hotel costs.
