Inclusive cycling sessions for people with disabilities will be provided at Thompson Park for free.
An exciting opportunity to begin your cycling journey.
Inclusive cycling is a way to make cycling accessible to people with disabilities, special educational needs, injuries, or other health conditions. Each session will be delivered with 1:1 instruction.
With help from funding from The National Lottery Awards for All, Sunderland Young People's Bike project are pleased to offer a number of FREE learn to ride classes led by nationally accredited cycling instructors.
Learn to ride classes are aimed at those who can balance but can’t pedal without stabilizers and are generally suitable for ages 5+yrs including older children and adults. It is usually taught after they’ve mastered a balance bike, although we can provide balance bike training as well.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own bikes where possible as it will help their future and continued development, however, we can provide bikes and helmets for the session if required. We have a range of bike sizes and a number of specialised bikes such as, balance bikes and bikes without pedals. Please let us know prior to the session if you have any specific requirements.
This session is designed around those who are not pedalling independently and will aim to improve their balance and confidence in the first instance but will also look to progress those who are ready to start pedalling.
Meet at the Thompson Park cycling skills area. Located in the middle of the park in between the big slide and zip wire.
