Celebrate the Mid-Autumn vibe with a special screening of the magical journey Into the Mortal World 落凡尘!

Celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with us at the Dylan Thomas Centre.

The Confucius Institute Chinese School has been given permission to screen the Chinese animated feature Into the Mortal World (落凡尘), as far as we know for the first time in the UK. The screening is part of our 2026 Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration and Chinese School Open Day.

About the film

Into the Mortal World comes from the old Chinese legend of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl. Jin Feng, the Weaver Girl's son, is sent down from the heavens to make amends for his mother and to recapture the twenty eight constellations that have escaped into the mortal world. Along the way he meets Xiao Fan, a girl who is set on reaching the realm of the gods to find her own mother. What begins as an uneasy alliance becomes a journey through myth, family and the stars.

The film takes its visual language from classical Chinese painting, and weaves in the Magpie Bridge, the Milky Way, the twenty eight constellations, Sichuan opera face changing and lion and dragon dancing. It is an easy way in for anyone new to Chinese storytelling, and a treat for those who already know the legend.

· Please book one ticket for each person attending, including children.

· Please arrive by 12:50 so that we can start on time.

· Children must be accompanied by an adult.

· There is a car park directly opposite the centre. You must scan the QR code in the car park and register your vehicle after parking, or you may receive a parking charge.

· The screening takes place with the permission of the film's distributor.

The film is part of our Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration and Chinese School Open Day, running from 10:00 to 15:00. Upstairs in Vivian Hall there are nine free craft workshops, an exhibition of work by our pupils marking the school's tenth anniversary, and live music including piano, pipa and guzheng. There is also a bilingual storytelling session at 11:30. All free, and no booking needed for any of it.
