About This Event

Nature Ramble on Swansea Dunes - An Intro to Biological Recording is set for 31 October 2026, led by Dan Forman. This event invites participants to explore the dunes and learn how to become citizen scientists. Attendance is free.

Following on from last month's event, join Dan Forman for a further nature ramble to find out just how you can become a citizen scientist!

Dan, retired Associate Professor of Wildlife Biology at Swansea University and an expert on mammals in Wales, will lead a group on a nature ramble on the dunes of Swansea Bay.

The purpose? To help improve confidence in our abilities to identify different types of common wildlife, and to become familiar with uploading what wildlife we see to the local biological records centre. This event is ideal for those who missed out on our first "citizen science" ramble last month.

Records can be sent to the South East Wales Biodiversity Records Centre https://www.sewbrec.org.uk/ using the LERC app. It's free and available for Apple and android mobile phones from the Apple or android app stores.

You'll need to load the app into your mobile phone and register your new account using an email before the event so you're all ready to start!

We will be working in small groups of 4 – 5 people to survey using field guides, with support from Dan and using our own knowledge to identify and record as many flora and fauna as possible on the dunes.

Numbers for this event are limited so please book early and cancel if you can't make it to free up a place for someone else.

Please also note that we are unable to accommodate children at this particular event but a similar family-focused event will be arranged in due course.
