Based on the remarkable true story of Frederick Densham, an eccentric and mysterious Rector who lived as a hermit in the remote Bodmin Moor village of Warleggan from 1931 until 1953, famously ending up preaching to a congregation of playing cards propped up in the pews. Enter, a young American journalist from Life Magazine, on her first European assignment. Written about by Daphne du Maurier and others, the story is driven by the evolving relationship between its two contrasting characters.
