Raising funds for a Remarkable Woman - Florence Beaumont
We're so pleased that our Florence Beaumont Fundraiser is moving on to the next phase. Everything that we've raised so far has allowed us to commission an amazing artist and sculptor to draw up the designs for a Florence Beaumont Sculpture.
You can help us to raise the money to build that sculpture, in time for the 100 years of universal suffrage celebrations in July 2028.
Florence Beaumont, Wakefield's incredible Suffragist daughter, was instrumental in that - taking the fight for women's suffrage to the League of Nations and, working within a system designed to take women's voices away, changing that completely.
Florence is AS important as the Pankhurst women (who were Suffragettes) in women's political legacy, and it is our vision to make sure her contribution is marked locally and recognised nationally.
Please consider donating anything that you can to help us move forward with the project. Every £ that you donate when you join one of our events takes us one step further towards our goal.
Through our walks and talks we've raised enough to pay for all of the design work and we now need to raise enough money for the construction process.
Learn more about the Forgotten Women of Wakefield (https://forgottenwomenwake.com/) and our work on our updated and refreshed website.
Wakefield has a proud legacy of women's activism and is the only city in the country which celebrates the lives of women who have directly influenced the political, social, cultural, scientific and creative landscape of Britain in this way.
