Saturday, 17 October - Malham Tarn Adventure!! We did it......
You might have seen a couple of photos on our social media pages but if you want the full inside story then donate a shilling for Florence. Photos, videos, blogs and laughs.
Thank you to everyone who's donated so far - you'll receive your link and password for the private webpage by the end of the week.
The team is really excited about its latest fundraising event. We are clambering and climbing the paths and trails around Malham (and you know how steep that is) in FULL costume.
We'd love it if you could donate the cost of a shilling (£7.33 in today's money). This was the annual fee to be a member of the NUWSS (National Union of Suffrage Societies) - the very society Florence set up at Hatfeild Hall here in Wakefield in 1910.
In return, you will get a copy of an image of the original shilling AND, after the event, photos from our antics.
If you don't have a shilling any amount you would like to donate gets you access to the inside story of the day.
Who knows what will happen on the day but, rest assured, only those who dontate will get to know all the gossips!
As ever, every penny raised in donations goes towards the Florence sculpture.
..............................................................
We're so pleased that our Florence Beaumont Fundraiser is moving on to the next phase. Everything that we've raised so far has allowed us to commission an amazing artist and sculptor to draw up the designs.
You can help us to raise the money to build that sculpture, in time for the 100 years of universal suffrage celebrations in July 2028.
Florence Beaumont, Wakefield's incredible Suffragist daughter, was instrumental in that - taking the fight for women's suffrage to the League of Nations and, working within a system designed to take women's voices away, changing that completely.
Florence is AS important as the Pankhurst women (who were Suffragettes) in women's political legacy, and it is our vision to make sure her contribution is marked locally and recognised nationally.
Please consider donating anything that you can to help us move forward with the project. Every £ that you donate takes us one step further towards our goal.
Through our walks and talks we've raised enough to pay for all of the design work and we now need to raise enough money for the construction process.
You are invited to join us at St John's churchyard on International Women's Day in 2027 when we'll share with you some of the design ideas for the final sculpture and launch the next phase of this exciting project.
Please donate if you are able to do so.
Thank you
