Step back in time and discover the fascinating stories behind our English Christmas traditions.

Overview: Step back in time and discover the fascinating stories behind our English Christmas traditions, from the Anglo-Saxons right through to the present day. Explore the difference between ‘New’ Twelfth Night and what is affectionately known as ‘Old Twelvey’.

Why do we hang baubles on the Christmas tree? Why do we bring greenery and trees into our homes, and where did the tradition of kissing under the mistletoe come from?

And, of course, there’s Christmas food! From goose, turkey, pork and pigs in blankets to Christmas cake, mince pies and sugared almonds – each has its own story to tell.

There will be things to try, fun and a FREE prize draw for a copy of Margaret’s book, A Little Book of English Christmas Traditions.

Come along and discover the history behind the Christmas traditions we know and love!

Join us from 09.10am for a free tea or coffee before the talk.
