Beginners Photography Workshop & Photo Walk

Join photographer and experienced photography educator Carolyn Lefley for a relaxed, practical six-hour photography course designed for beginners and anyone looking to gain more confidence with their camera.

The day begins at Carolyn’s home studio/workshop space, where you’ll spend the morning learning the fundamentals of photography in a friendly, informal setting. We’ll explore how your camera works and how to move beyond automatic settings, with practical guidance on:

Understanding your camera and its key settings

Aperture, shutter speed and ISO

Shooting in Manual, Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority

Exposure and how to achieve well balanced images

Focusing and depth of field

Composition, framing and visual elements

Working with natural light

Choosing the right settings for different situations

Developing your creative approach and photographic eye

In the afternoon, we’ll put these skills into practice during a two-hour guided photo walk around Ham Hill. There will be plenty of opportunities to experiment, photograph the landscape and explore different approaches to composition, light and perspective. Carolyn will offer individual guidance and support throughout the walk.

We’ll then return to the studio to review and discuss your photographs, looking at what works, how your images could be developed further, and answering any final questions.

The course is deliberately kept to a small group, with a maxinmum of 5 participants, so that everyone has plenty of opportunity for individual guidance and feedback.

About Carolyn

Carolyn Lefley is a professional photographer and photography educator with 20 years' experience teaching photography in further and higher education.
