The BrueLife Pilgrimage 2026 event will take place in Wells on 2026-08-28. The pilgrimage will follow the Brue course from source to sea. Admission is free, but ticket prices are not specified.
Our first pilgrimage down the whole course of the Brue, from source in Brewham, beneath Alfred’s Tower, down to the sea beneath Brean Down
Over the weekend of the final summer Bank Holiday, at the end of August, we are leading our first pilgrimage down the whole course of the Brue, from source in Brewham, beneath Alfred’s Tower, down to the sea beneath Brean Down, along the historic Axe course (before the Glastonbury monks dug their fish pond at Meare).
The BrueLife Pilgrimage is open to everyone. The Brue welcomes you to join for a single day, several days, or the who four-day pilgrimage, from Friday 28th to Sunday 31st. Together, we will walk with our Brue from her source to the sea, moving through the flowscape, its communities, and receiving experiences of how we are reconnecting with the all of life of that our river supports.
Each day is approximately twelve miles, or six hours of walking at a smooth pace.
Friday, 28 August: Brue’s source on Druley Hill above Brewham, through Bruton, to Alford, where pilgrims will camp at All Saints Church.
Saturday, 29 August: Alford through Lydford and Baltonsborough to Glastonbury, where pilgrims will wild camp near Pomparle’s Bridge.
Sunday, 30 August: Glastonbury, past the Lake Village, through the Godney Gap along the former course of the Brue, to join the Axe near Theale, then on to camp beside the Axe in Weare, between Wedmore and Axebridge.
Bank Holiday Monday, 31 August: Weare through Bleadon to St Bridget, Brean, with a walk up Brean Down if we feel that energetic!
We are organising lunchtime and evening activities in communities along the Brue’s course.
We will provide a support vehicle to transport tents, sleeping bags, mats, and other bulky items between overnight stops throughout the pilgrimage. We would appreciate volunteer drivers getting in touch, even if you cannot join any of the days’ walking, and especially to help drop pilgrims at the source on the morning of Friday 28th, and pick us up from St Bridget, Brean on Monday 31st.
Please get in register here if you, and your family, would like to walk with the Brue, for any or all of this year’s pilgrimage, and by email to info@bruecrew.org for further details, and to confirm your place(s).
