About This Event

The day will be experiential with practical embodied movement work and some illustrated background exploration of anatomy and physiology of osteoarthritis in the hips – what it is, how it manifests in yoga practice and how to rehabilitate using a combination of dynamic physiotherapy exercises and more subtle, specific yoga practice. My aim is to challenge certain existing prohibitions and contraindications when dealing with hip replacement and to demonstrate how compliance with physiotherapy combined with yoga practice is the route to restoring full range of movement. Attendees will learn how to build strength and resilience in themselves and in their students, through patient and consistent restoration of practice. There will be some pranayama to demonstrate how breath work can alleviate anxiety and pain. No attendees within three months of hip replacement surgery. Bridget's approach is rooted in the tradition of Vanda Scaravelli and is centred around the relationship between gravity, breath and the spine. This tradition is an embodied practice which adapts the yoga postures to individual physiques in a grounded exploration of the body’s natural movement patterns to free the spine, experience greater flexibility, strength and balance.
