The Heritage Talk on 'Roman Saturnalia' will be held at Weston Museum in Weston Super Mare on 3 December 2026, starting at 14:30. The talk will be presented by Jane Hill, the Heritage & Community Officer. Attendance is free.

Join us for our FREE monthly Heritage Talk. This month’s talk is: ‘Roman Saturnalia’, by Jane Hill – Heritage & Community Officer This talk will look at the Roman winter festival, featuring public holidays, role-reversal, and widespread merrymaking. Saturnalia was characterized by gift-giving, gambling, feasts, and the suspension of normal social rules, including masters serving slaves. Its traditions strongly influenced modern Christmas customs.
