About the workshop
Photography has never been more accessible, but what makes one image stand out from the many photographs we take every day?
Join professional photographer Hannah Gamble for a friendly and practical workshop exploring how to get more from the camera on your smartphone. Through examples, demonstrations and discussion, Hannah will introduce simple techniques that can make an immediate difference to your photographs, including:
composition and visual storytelling
making effective use of light
useful camera settings and features
common mistakes and how to avoid them
simple ways to improve everyday photographs
The workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as those who already enjoy photography and would like to develop their skills. No specialist equipment or technical knowledge is needed - just bring a fully charged smartphone!
All smartphones are welcome. Hannah will demonstrate using an iPhone, so menus and controls may appear differently on other devices. Because layouts vary between makes and models, participants using other phones may occasionally need to help locate the equivalent setting on their own device. However, all the photographic principles and techniques covered apply across smartphones.
Drinks reception & exhibition private viewing
Following the workshop, guests are invited to a drinks reception and private viewing of 'Picturing Eton' in the Verey Gallery. Drawing on Eton College’s Photographic Archive, the exhibition traces the changing history of photography through images of daily life at Eton, from early photographic processes to the digital age. Hannah will use selected photographs from the exhibition to connect its themes with some of the ideas explored during the workshop.
This event forms part of the Windsor Festival programme.
