About This Event

Visit this exhibition exploring how diplomat, globetrotter and visionary collector, Sir George Labouchere moved between the political frontlines of Stockholm, Nanking and Madrid while quietly assembling a daring collection of Modern Art. In a world where embassy walls were lined with safe, traditional paintings, he chose bold abstraction and contemporary sculpture instead. A pivotal moment came at Expo 58 in Brussels, when he acquired a work by Henry Moore, igniting a lifelong commitment to living artists whose work challenged convention. Serving in Spain under Francisco Franco, George collected radical works even as he navigated delicate diplomacy. Returning to Dudmaston, he shaped a legacy rooted in friendship, patronage and public access. Normal admission applies.
