A moving story about family, mental illness, coping with trauma that grief and loss creates, whilst searching for what is now 'normal'...

Next to Normal tells the story of Diana Goodman, a suburban wife and mother who suffers from bipolar disorder and is haunted by grief and loss.

The effects on her family have been profound. Her husband, Dan, longs for the connection he and Diana once had. Her daughter, Natalie is searching for a sense of belonging and acceptance of how life is now. Her doctors suggests hypnosis and Electric Convulsive Therapy in an attempt to manage her condition. The show's themes include mental health, grief, medical ethics, suburban malaise, and attempting to define what “normal” is.

A contemporary rock musical, Next to Normal is one of the most critically acclaimed and moving musicals of the 21st century. Split Mask cannot wait to present its interpretation of this moving story.
