St John Ambulance will run a half-day mental health awareness course at the University of Wolverhampton on 12 November 2026. This introductory session is designed to raise awareness of mental health issues. The event is free to attend.

This course will be delivered in conjunction with St Johns Ambulance.
Our three hour Mental Health Awareness course is designed to give students a greater understanding of what mental health is and how to be more empathetic and supportive of people experiencing mental ill-health.
The Mental Health Awareness course enhances the learners’ understanding of what mental ill-health is, summarising common mental health conditions and potential risk and protective factors. This 3-hour interactive course will enhance a learner’s knowledge of mental health/ill-health through trainer led discussion & activities. Specifically this course will cover:
• What is meant by mental health and mental ill-health
• Common mental illnesses
• The importance of empathy when communicating with a person experiencing mental ill-health
• Stigma and the effect it has on mental health
• Support for people experiencing mental ill-health
• The benefits of a positive mental health culture
This course demonstrates how to communicate with people in an empathetic manner and allows the learners to put this into practice.
The course will be held on City Campus on Thursday 12th November. It is a face to face event and no on-line option is available.
Sessions available are
9am-12pm
1pm-4pm
Places are available for undergraduate students in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at level 5 and 6 only. Please book one time slot only
50 places are available in each session. You will be expected to attend the session once booked. If you are unable to attend please email L.Loach@wlv.ac.uk giving a minimum of three days notice. Once all spaces are booked a waiting list will be set up- if you wish to be placed on the waiting list please email L.Loach@wlv.ac.uk
