About This Event

The Family Art Session: Clay Faces event is held at The Spire Centre in York on August 25th, 2026. The event starts at 10:00 and costs £2.88. The event is a family arts session where children and adults can learn and enjoy together. The venue is The Spire Centre in York.

A fabulous Family Arts session for children and adults to learn and enjoy together.

Come and join us at a fabulous Family Arts session hosted by Thread and Press CIC. These exciting sessions have been funded by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council Arts Grant, allowing us to provide high quality art experiences to families in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

In this exciting session, we show children and adults how to use air-drying clay to model clay portrait face artwork! Chidren and adults will learn modelling techniques and build a portrait of a face - make a self-portrait, a favourite person or a funny or silly face! This is a guided tuition session - follow Holly, an experienced art teacher, as she shows all participants how to work with the clay and build - but feel free to do your own thing too! Clay is a fun family activity, which doesn't require any special equipment and is great for all ages. In our Family Arts sessions, we encourage adults to participate too. As well as supporting your child, you can learn how to model and enjoy a relaxing and fulfilling morning. You and your child will leave the session with a beautiful clay relief model (or two).

These sessions are aimed at children aged 5+ and can be adapted to suit older learners. Younger siblings are welcome at the venue, there will be some colouring in to do, but please make sure they can be adequately supervised. All children participating will need to book a place, but accompanying adult joins inf or free (maximum of one accompanying adult per child). Please book places for children only (no need to book places for accompanying adult)

All materials and equipment are provided. Please wear appropriate clothing as clay can be messy.

Our sessions welcome all learners, including SEND learners. We are also running a specialist SEND session with a smaller number of attendees in a relaxed environment - please contact us at threadandpress@gmail.com to find out more.

Please feel free to bring a drink and a snack for your child (no nuts please). Any hot drinks that you bring must be in a sealed travel cup. Please note, at least one supervising adult is expected to stay with your child in this session.

These sessions are subsidised and therefore great value! However, places are limited and we politely ask that if you book and find you are unable to attend, that you notify us wherever possible so that another chid can participate and we can reallocate your ticket (and issue you a refund).
