About This Event

Fungi Walk at Three Hagges Woodmeadow is scheduled for 31 October 2026 at Plantlife Three Hagges Woodmeadow Nature Reserve in York. Led by Nature Reserves Manager Kara and local fungi expert Rhona Sutherland, participants will discover the fungi present on site. Admission is free.

Join Nature Reserves Manager Kara, and local fungi expert Rhona Sutherland, for a walk to discover the fungi that grow on site.

Join a local fungi expert and the Plantlife nature reserves manager for a fungi walk around Three Hagges Woodmeadow. You will get to see some of the fascinating fungi that grow here as well as picking up some tips and tricks about how to identify fungi. You'll also be introduced to Waxcap Watch, a citizen science project which you can get involved with if you want to do something to help conserve fungi.

We anticipate the event will last for two hours, but it may be longer if there's lots to see.

Accessibility at Three Hagges Woodmeadow

We want everyone to enjoy exploring our 10‑hectare Woodmeadow, and we’ve put together this guide to help you plan your visit.

Paths & Terrain

The majority of the site is reached via flat, mown‑grass paths, which may be uneven in places and can become wet or muddy, particularly after rainfall.

Sections of the route pass through woodland, where visitors may encounter tree roots, natural obstacles, and uneven ground.

A hardcore, accessible path provides step‑free access to the toilets and Bodgers Den.

Visitors using mobility aids may find some woodland sections and mown paths challenging; however, accessible routes to key facilities are available.

Facilities

Two eco‑loos are available on site, each equipped with hand‑washing facilities.

Benches are located at intervals throughout the reserve to offer regular resting points.

Blue Badge parking is available at the main entrance.

General parking is also provided for all visitors.

Travel & Transport

An off‑road Sustrans cycle route connects the reserve from both Selby and York for most of the journey.

A regular bus service from Selby and York stops near the main entrance to Hollicarrs and Three Hagges Woodmeadow.

What to Wear

Our paths can get wet or muddy, so we recommend sturdy boots or wellies.

If you’d like advice before visiting or want to check specific access needs, we’re always happy to help.

This event is part of the National Lottery Heritage Fund project Pathway to Nature. Thanks to Lottery players we are able to improve accessibility at Three Hagges Woodmeadow. Through the project we are improving physical and digital access to the reserve, and offering more inclusive volunteering oppportunities. Contact kara.garnett@plantlife.org.uk if you'd like more information.
