Celtic Carols By Candlelight is an evocative hour of traditional music and storytelling that reimagines the Advent/Christmas season through the eyes of the Celtic Christians that dwelt in the North in the 7th century. Haunting carols, hymns and chants are drawn from historical sources and expertly woven into the inspiring tales of the saints of Northumbria.

Now in its third year of touring - including sell-out performances in 2025 - Celtic Carols By Candlelight was created by independent folk musician and modern-day bard Olivia Graham specifically for performance in historic churches.

Duration: 1 hr. Doors open half an hour before start of performance.

Please note: as this is a touring show, the nature of the candlelight aspect of the performance varies from venue to venue as per the requirements of the individual church.

Holy Trinity Church is over 800 years old. Please be aware the building has uneven flooring and care must be taken when moving about .

The building is wheelchair accessible with the exception of the sunken chapel. Please contact the church in advance regarding any access requirements you may have.

The building has no central heating, and it is therefore advised to dress as warmly as possible. Blankets are available upon request (subject to availability). You are welcome to bring your own blankets and cushions.

Please note that there are no toilet facilities at the church. Visitors are advised to use the facilities at the Old White Swan next door.

There is no allocated seating. Holy Trinity Church boasts one of the finest surviving examples of historic box pews in the country; seating will be allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis and you may be asked to share a box with other audience members.

Sightlines vary around the building, but the accoustics are excellent throughout!

The main entrance is on Goodramgate (opposite Tesco), with an alternative enterance on Low Petergate via Hornpot Lane.

Latecomers may not be admitted once the show has started. Please arrive in good time.

Tickets cannot be refunded within 7 days of the performance.
