This intensive one-day course explores the close-combat methods taught to US Marines during WWII, examining the fighting systems developed and adapted for the brutal conditions of the Pacific War.

The course focuses on two key figures in American combatives: Jonathan Styers, who taught close combat to US Marines during WWII and was wounded at Iwo Jima, and Anthony Drexel Biddle, Styers' instructor, who taught military personnel during both WWI and WWII.

On the day, you'll cover:

Unarmed combat: Striking, locks, chokes and other close-combat methods.

Stick fighting: Techniques using the stick in both one- and two-handed methods.

Knife fighting: Combat knife techniques, including methods using a sword bayonet.

Bayonet combat: The methods and principles of bayonet fighting taught to American servicemen.

Explore how these methods were intended to prepare US Marines for the demands of close combat in the Pacific Theatre.
