Watch climate-themed documentaries from Thailand and Spain, followed by discussion with the directors and UOY staff and students.

As part of the 8th annual Law Clinics Global Day of Action for Climate Change, we're organising a series of events inspired by the positivity of the Solarpunk movement - the Solarpunk York Festival, taking place between 16-22 November!

On 19th November, join us for an evening of climate themed documentaries by Weeraya Vichayaprasertkul (Min) - a multi-award-winning Thai environmental documentary filmmaker and the co-founder of EcoCupid, an ASEAN platform for environmental storytelling, and an early development cut of a new documentary from Client Earth.

Pad Thai

Dam has been running a Pad Thai restaurant, "Pad Thai Fire" in the Sukhumvit area of Bangkok for nearly 40 years. The story explains how climate change affects each ingredient of his Pad Thai, including rice noodles, eggs, various vegetables, and shrimp.

Forest-Coast-City

This documentary reflects the beauty of three small groups of people in Thailand: in the city, along the coast, and in the forest. Each group has its methods of reducing CO₂ and methane, two of the many gases responsible for global warming.

Mar Menor

The film tells the story of the Mar Menor in Spain and the citizen-led legal movement that resulted in it becoming Europe’s first ecosystem to be recognised as a legal person. Through the story of environmental lawyer Teresa Vicente, the film provides an accessible entry point into questions around the Rights of Nature, citizen participation, access to justice and new models of environmental governance.

The screenings will be followed by a discussion with the movie directors and UOY staff and students.
