Join us for the second installment of Tidings, our poetry reading series at Waterstones York!
Our September 2026 issue will feature Kimberly Campanello and include an open-mic for local voices to share their words with the community.
About Kimberly Campanello:
Across her writing and performance in whatever form it takes, Kimberly Campanello’s abiding preoccupation is with the power of the language to ‘change states’ in all senses of the phrase. She is the author of the poetry object and durational performance MOTHERBABYHOME (zimZalla, 2019). She is also an inaugural Markievicz Award winner from Ireland’s Arts Council and the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht for (S)word State(s) (The Salvage Press, 2024) with Dimitra Xidous and Annemarie Ni Churreain and an Arts Council Ireland Literature Project Award for sorry that you were not moved (2022), an interactive digital poetry publication in conversation with Calvino’s Invisible Cities created in collaboration with Christodoulos Markis and Fallow Media. Her latest poetry collection An Interesting Detail was released by Bloomsbury Poetry in April 2025. Her debut novel Use the Words You Have was published in June 2025 and has been shortlisted for the 2026 Society of Authors Gordon Bowker Volcano Prize. Extracts from her work-in-progress, a new version of Dante’s Comedia, have appeared in Firmament, Poetry Ireland Review, Still Point, Pamenar Magazine, The Long Poem Magazine and Notre Dame Review.
About the Open-Mic:
Anyone is welcome to sign-up to read for the open-mic, but please do so in advance. Contact events.york@waterstones.com and a bookseller will reach out to confi rm your slot. Each slot is 6 minutes. Please be aware that we will close applications if the maximum capacity of readers is reached, but do check back for when we announce the next Tidings event. We look forward to welcoming you!
The venue:
City Screen Picturehouse is a premier venue at the heart York city centre. This event will take place in The Basement and doors will open to the public at 18:45 for a relaxed welcome reception prior to the event beginning at 19.00. Refreshements will be available for purchase.
