Folktales for New Scots is about community and cultural exchange through local folktales and crafting. A creative meeting place for people from different cultural backgrounds – bringing together New Scots and more long-established Scottish residents. Whether you’d like to get lost in quiet print-making alongside others, or chat away with new people and share your culture, this is a space for meeting other locals and being creative together.
Who is it for?
Open to all community members aged 16+
We welcome New Scots - people with migration and asylum experience – and also ‘born and bred’ locals and long-established residents.
What to expect:
• Traditional Scottish folktales with storyteller Shona Cowie
• A guided gelli plate printing workshop with Robert Motyka(Beetroots Collective: https://beetroots.org). Advanced Gelli: Layers & Linocuts. Theme: memory, place and identity.
• A relaxed, welcoming space to create and connect
• All materials included, no experience needed.
Accessibility:
There is a Hearing Loop in The Cutty Sark.

Can I attend more than one session?
Yes! You’re welcome to attend one session or many.
Artwork will build from week to week, resulting in a film shown at an outdoor street celebration in March 2027.
