About the meeting
Good calf hygiene and biosecurity are fundamental to calf health, performance and the long-term productivity of dairy businesses – but where are the biggest opportunities for improvement?
Throughout 2026, the Biosecurity & Calf Hygiene Extension Package has been working directly with dairy farms across Scotland, carrying out on-farm assessments to better understand current practices, identify common challenges and explore practical opportunities to strengthen calf health and biosecurity.
This meeting will bring together farmers, vets, advisers, and dairy industry professionals to hear what the project has found so far and consider how to translate these findings into practical improvements across the Scottish dairy sector.
What will the meeting will cover?
Key findings from Scottish dairy farms – what the project has identified through its on-farm assessments
Common calf hygiene and biosecurity risks and where improvements could have the greatest impact
Cleaning and disinfection in practice – understanding what effective protocols look like
How clean is clean? – approaches to assessing the cleanliness of calf equipment and facilities
Practical interventions that can be realistically incorporated into dairy and calf-rearing systems
Who should attend?
This event is relevant to anyone with an interest in calf health, dairy herd performance and biosecurity.
Whether you work directly with calves or support dairy businesses through advice, research or industry services, the seminar offers an opportunity to hear the latest findings from the project, exchange knowledge and take practical learning back to farms and businesses.

The Biosecurity & Calf Hygiene Extension Package is delivered by Owen Farm Services in partnership with Kersia UK and SRUC/Digital Dairy Chain, with funding from the Scottish Government Knowledge Transfer and Innovation Fund (KTIF).
