About This Event

On September 18, 2026, at Belfast Boat Club, Kyron Bourke and Michael Mormecha brought their collective expertise to Blues by the River. Seated on the riverbank, the audience was enveloped in a musical experience that mingled soulful blues with intricate guitar work and dynamic rhythms. The evening saw two artists intertwine seamlessly, each adding layers of emotion and energy to the performance, creating an atmosphere where every note seemed to resonate along the water's edge.

Highly versatile musician, actor and storyteller Kyron in a new collaboration with multi-instrumentalist and producer, Michael Mormecha

Blues by The River: Kyron Bourke and Michael Mormecha

Friday 18th September, doors open from 7pm, gig starts at 8pm

Brought to you by Lyric Hifi at the Belfast Boat Club

We're getting a taste for this! Following another magical night with Ken Haddock with Clive Wills in May, we're delighted to announce that we have managed to squeeze in another Blues By The River gig for September!

Kyron Bourke has thrilled us with many interpretations and musical collaborations playing around Ireland. From The Hothouse Flowers and Paul Harrington to Ronnie Greer and Linley Hamilton, Kyron has played with top musicians in addition to being an actor, playwright and musical director.

His sell out play of 2022 No Citations was fantastic and his Kyron Bourke Celebrates Leonard Cohen show sold out the Lyric Theatre last year before going on tour.

Now Kyron brings us a new collaboration with Michael Mormecha, a multi-instrumentalist based in Co Down. As well as singing in Tru and drumming in alternative band Preyrs Michael has worked with an incredibly diverse range of Irish artists across all genres.

Michael and Kyron's re-interpreting of Tom Waits' Swordfish trombones and Raindogs sold out many nights in the Oh Yeah centre and were amazing gigs, not to be missed. I'm personally disappointed to have been at only one of them; it was an unforgettable performance.

The pair also work on original music and are planning a special set for this gig, I've heard snippets so can't wait for these songs, along with some older classics.

The intimate setting of the Belfast Boat Club will once more provide the perfect setting, and the sound will be great too, again featuring Alastair McMillan at the controls!

About the venue

Belfast Boat Club is a new venue in a beautiful setting so come early and have a look round while you're here. The club is open all day, and for this performance doors open at 7pm, with kick off around 8pm. There is free public car parking here, just a 200m walk to the Boat Club. Over 18s only.

The title Blues By The River is a nod to the late Dougie Knight, the font of all knowledge on jazz and blues. Back in the '80s he ran Jazz by the River in the same venue, cajoling major jazz artists visiting the Queens Festival to do an extra night at the Boat Club.

Great artists in an intimate venue, that’s the idea, thanks Dougie.

This event is made possible by the sponsorship of Lyric Hifi, because we love live music as well as great sound systems.

We look forward to seeing you there, it's going to be another cracking evening!

Michael and the Lyric team.
