Join us for an exhilarating day of adventure on the Mourne Way One Day Challenge! Lace up your hiking boots and get ready to conquer the ultimate low level trail in the Mourne Mountains.
On Sat Aug 29 2025, meeting at 06:30 AM in Kilbroney Park to catch the shuttle to Newcastle , we will embark on an unforgettable journey through the foothills of the magnificent Mourne Mountains .
This event requires a very high level of fitness and previous hiking experience. This Iconic Mourne hiking trail will take us from Newcastle along the 24-mile route of the full Mourne Way .. with its breathtaking views, it is a true test of endurance.
On completion of the challenge you will receive one of our bespoke wooden finishers medals from the Dribble Yak.
About this event
This route is almost entirely off road, traversing the foothill of the Mourne Mountains from Newcastle to Rostrevor on Carlingford Lough. The route takes you from the sea in Newcastle, through Tollymore Forest, across the Mournes and back to the sea at Rostrevor. It is a linear route which follows mountain tracks and forest paths and takes in one summit (Butter Mountain).
This is a truelly magical journey from one side of the Mournes to the other taking in the varied terrain and views as we go.

*Please note ..We will meet at our finish point - Kilbroney then will be taken by shuttle to the start of the hike at Newcastle. If you don't require the shuttle, please advise us prior to the event.
Distance: 39km
Elevation 1100m
Approx Time: 12 hours
Level: Strenuous/Advanced
Terrain: rocky track, open mountain, river crossings.. you might get wet feet, forest. Paved path, pathless terrain
Are you ready for an adventure? You will get a guided hike with qualified and experienced mountain leaders who are outdoor first aid trained and will be carrying first aid and emergency equipment for your safety.
£89 including finishers medal.
**Please note that we will be transported by the Mourne Shuttle Service from Kilbroney to Newcastle to begin our hike. We will then hike back to Kilbroney. Their will be £10 payable by cash on the day. If you plan to meet us at the hike start point in Newcastle @0700 please advise prior to the event

Of course, there are lots of people that join our events on their own, it won’t be long until you are making new mountain mates!
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO WEAR
🥾 Waterproof walking boots
👖 Walking trousers or leggings (no jeans/cotton)
🧥 Insulating layers such as fleece or wool and a jacket
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BRING:
🎒 Small backpack
🌧️ Waterproof jacket and trousers
🧤 Hat and 2 x gloves
🥵 Spare insulating layers
💧 Water and snacks
🔦 Head Torch & spare batteries
💦Gaiters : Optional but advised
🆘 Bivvy Bag: optional but adviseable (these will be available to purchase before the hike)
🐾 NO DOGS : Whilst we are a dog friendly community asking group, unfortunately due to land owner resrictions there will be no dogs on this hike.

IF WE CANCEL OR POSTPONE an event for any reason, you will have the option of:
1. Completing your activity on a rescheduled date
2. Receive a full refund.
IF YOU CANCEL:
If you notify us with over 28 days notice of the event start date credit will be given that you can use against other events. Within 28 days notice of an event there is no credit given and we do not offer exchanges/transfer of your ticket onto another event.
📆 RESCHEDULED EVENT
If an event is rescheduled and you agree to the new date, your booking is transferred to the new event and this cancellation policy will apply to the rescheduled date.
❗️PLEASE NOTE: Due to the nature of the events we provide and the environments these take place in, hikes will not be cancelled simply because of bad weather. However they will be cancelled by us if bad weather deems the event dangerous or unsuitable In this instance we will get in touch to notify you.
Hikes are subject to minimum group numbers being reached. In the event that this does not happen, you will be notified and offered a full refund, or the opportunity to be transferred onto a different event Or a credit held.
