Join us for a practical, hands-on introduction to making the most of a DSLR camera for filmmaking.
Designed for teachers, educators and colleagues working with young people, this free pilot session will explore how DSLR cameras can be used to create engaging film content in educational settings.
Participants will develop their confidence with the core functions of a DSLR camera and explore practical approaches to framing, composition, focus, exposure and camera movement. The session will focus on techniques that can be applied when supporting young people to plan and produce their own films.
No advanced filmmaking experience is required. The day will be practical, accessible and suitable for participants with different levels of confidence.
WHAT THE SESSION WILL COVER
• Getting to know the main functions of a DSLR camera
• Framing and composing effective shots
• Using focus and exposure creatively
• Practical approaches to camera movement
• Common filmmaking mistakes and how to avoid them
• Ideas for using camera skills with young people
WHO IS IT FOR?
This session is suitable for teachers, educators, youth workers and colleagues interested in developing their practical filmmaking skills.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Participants are encouraged to bring their own DSLR or digital camera where possible. Please do not worry if you do not have access to a camera, as you can still take part in the session.
LUNCH AND REFRESHMENTS

ABOUT SCREENWORKS FOR EDUCATORS
ScreenWorks for Educators is a new pilot initiative exploring how practical, industry-informed training can support teachers and educators to develop their confidence in filmmaking and screen-related skills.
These pilot sessions will also help us understand what future training and support would be most valuable to educators.
Places are limited and advance booking is required.
