About This Event

Careers in Writing Day 2026 is for individuals aged 16-25 and takes place at the Birmingham City University Curzon Building. The event features workshops, expert talks and professional advice on the writing industry. Tickets are priced between £5.00 and £15.00.

FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AGED 16-25

Careers in Writing is designed to inspire, inform, and connect young writers who are passionate about pursuing careers in the world of writing or seeking further education in literary and book-based fields. Hosted by Birmingham City University (BCU) in collaboration with Writing West Midlands (WWM), this event will offer a dynamic mix of 1-2-1 sessions*, expert talks, and hands-on workshops, providing participants with the tools, knowledge, and inspiration to advance their writing careers.

*please note the 1-2-1 sessions will take place in the morning before the main event. Once you have booked a session, you will be given a time slot.

Event Highlights:

1-2-1 Sessions: Personalised meetings with industry professionals, where participants can seek advice, ask questions, and receive tailored career guidance. These will take place before the event from 10am.

Inspirational Speakers: Hear from established authors, publishers, agents, and industry professionals, who will share their personal journeys, tips for success, and insights into navigating the writing industry.

Networking Opportunities: Connect with fellow attendees, speakers, and workshop leaders to build valuable relationships and learn about potential career opportunities.

Interactive Workshops: Hands-on learning sessions focused on specific aspects of creative writing.
